Equity Training: Oregon’s Sanctuary Promise Program and Hotline

March 4 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Oregon Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Unit offers Sanctuary Promise Training to community groups, providing essential information on Oregon’s sanctuary laws and the Sanctuary Promise Hotline.

Oregon became the first sanctuary state in the nation in 1987, when lawmakers made a commitment to uphold the dignity, safety, and human rights of immigrant and refugee communities. In response to increasing anti-immigrant rhetoric and heightened federal immigration enforcement in recent years, the Oregon DOJ has expanded its efforts to protect these communities. This includes tracking potential sanctuary law violations through the Sanctuary Promise Hotline and offering training sessions to ensure Oregonians understand the laws designed to safeguard their rights.

The Sanctuary Promise Training helps participants:

  • Understand Oregon’s sanctuary laws and the rights they protect
  • Recognize potential violations and how to report them
  • Prepare for increased federal immigration activity in our state
  • Learn about available resources for individuals and families

This training empowers community members, educators, advocates, and local leaders to ensure Oregon remains a place of safety and inclusion for all.
