Almost all activity kits have been distributed, which include the walking school bus, bike bus, circulation, and crossing guard kits. Thank you to all who signed up to receive one or more activity kits. We are so excited to hear from you about your experiences with the activity kits. Please keep your eye out for an activity kit followup survey that will be sent out in a couple of months.

If you did not sign up to receive a kit this round, please check out the items you can possibly get in each kit below and examples of how to use them to see if this is something you may be interested in ordering in the future:

Walking School Bus

  • The how-to guide can be used to get your Walking School Bus started if you don’t have an existing program.
  • The high visibility reflective key chain can be distributed to students for use while walking.
  • The walk and roll stickers can be awarded for appropriate walking behavior, knowledge of walking rules, and fun incentives for learning about or walking on the walking school bus.
  • Students in the front of the Walking School Bus can hold the banner as they walk. The banner can then live at the school to advertise the Walking School Bus when it is not operating.
  • The Bluetooth speaker can be used for stop-start walking games and song requests from students. It can also help bring a fun and joyful environment to your walk!

Bike Bus Kit

  • The how-to guide can be used to get your Bike Bus started if you don’t have an existing program.
  • You can hold a demonstration where students learn how to put their red (rear of bike) and white (front of bike) bicycle lights.
  • The walk and roll stickers can be awarded for appropriate biking behavior, knowledge of biking rules, and as fun incentives for learning about or riding on the bike bus
  • Once students creatively customize their bike with spoke decorations you can hold a bike art show and tell before taking off one day.
  • The Bluetooth speaker can be used for stop-start bike games and song requests from students to create a fun and joyful environment and allow your presence to be heard throughout the neighborhood!

Circulation Kit

  • The circulation how-to guide can be shared with school staff, volunteers, and caregivers to support using the materials in this kit.
  • Placing the traffic cones in drop-off and pick-up zones to limit or restrict cars and allow students more room for safely waiting or walking/rolling to or from school.
  • The chalk sandwich board can be used for messages about the flow of traffic or other SRTS-related messaging.
  • The directional signs can be used for safely organizing traffic flow.
  • The directional stencils can be spray painted on the pavement to keep traffic moving.
  • The slow stencil can be spray painted on places where vehicles need a reminder to slow down.

Crossing Guard Kit

  • The high visibility vest, rain poncho, and winter beanie can be used to keep crossing guards safe and comfortable.
  • The stop paddle can be used to stop traffic when students are crossing and can also be utilized as a teaching tool to demonstrate what to do at a stop sign.
